The accused was arrested after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer. The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday. Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy. Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th. 'Treat game' The legal representative, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body. She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed. Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible". She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day. She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in summer 2025. The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause. "They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings." Mrs Prior KC explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns. She stated Ruben continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning. "The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further. The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events. The prosecutor said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities once more. She said the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
